I made a Wordle like game: Mazele

It has around 100 daily players, and I get half a cent per player per session… so 50 cents a day! Not nothing, not lots.

But if I could get 1000 people a day playing that would be $5 a day

And if I could get 100,000 players a day it would be $500 a day…!!

But no matter what I try, 100 players a day.

I’m working on allowing access to previous days games!

But for now, if you’d like more of that sweet sweet Mazele fix, it’s very badly written. Which means that it’s entirely client side authenticated, which means you could change your local clock to be a different day and it would give you another puzzle :)

Be warned, streaks might not work so well!

Just won my first game! Might be cool if you were able to put red boxes where you know there aren't valid paths, but might be overkill since it's really only useful for 1 count rows/columns.

The trick is distribution and with low revenue per user from ads you can’t pay your way to win. I would find communities of people who love games and see if you can share the game with them. A trick might be to find the people who still share their wordle scores on Twitter and DM them that you have a new game. Good luck!

I’ve actually already done this -it’s made a little harder by Twitter removing the ability to DM, and also there just aren’t that many Wordle players out there compared to its peak

I’ve missed the craze slightly…! Good idea though, that’s where a lot of my growth to date has come from

I work full time (not on Mazele) so it was a good few months (maybe 3?) of semi regular evenings and weekends. Then I really got it going on a week’s holiday.

I’ve carried on tinkering with it for almost a year now though!

I’m not sure - I think the big thing I’ve learned is I should probably verify there’s a market for something before dedicating loads of time to making something!

And now I’m suffering from sunk cost fallacy, because I can’t quite bring myself to start the next project and keep tinkering with this one

I’ll give you some feedback. It’s too hard to understand. I wanted to give it 1 minute. But i couldn’t. So I would say 99% of people would quit after that. I continue out of sheer will of wanting to prove im not stupid. But even then it took time. I originally tonight this was a cool concept. and the design is nice. But it’s too complicated. I would suggest experiment with an easy mode that isn’t as complicated somehow.

Spending on UA has never worked for my projects but Reddit and FB groups have. See if you can find communities of people who love football and/or fantasy and share there and ask for feedback. Might be a cheaper path to users. Good luck!

I have some friends and family that have literally been playing the game for 1+ year now, long after I expected them to keep playing it for, and are all competitive and trash talking and trying to get 1st place in the league. Would be great if I could improve the experience through new feedback to the point where strangers could get to that “hooked” state as well…

Two sides of the same project:

Sportsbook API: A paid API to access sports betting odds for 20+ leagues across 10+ major US sportsbooks.
Odds Assist Pro: A site that shows live and historical odds for games a bunch of different sports. This started as a playground for me to test the data from my API and has grown into its own site that gets a few hundred users a day.

At the moment the API earns less than $50/mo which is less than server and db costs, but I'm happy to subsidize as I like playing with the data. OA Pro doesn't earn recurring revenue at the moment, but we occasionally get referral sign ups which earns $20-$100 sporadically.

I’m building Nerd Crawler — a marketplace for original comic art collectors. I’m at >$300 MRR but finally have a path toward $1000 in monthly revenue and audience growth with $0 ad spend. A screenshot of a couple metrics I’m proud of.

I don’t have it all figured out but my advice would be:

talk with your users to find what pain points they have and build for those.
SEO take a long time to get the results. Keep at it but don’t over index on it too much in the short term
don’t pay for marketing if you don’t have product market fit. Instead, find communities of your potential users and try to organically share or DM people there
if you really want this, don’t lose focus. Invest time every day. There’s a clear period in my graphs where I shipped and then didn’t do anything with it. Had I moved faster, I probably would’ve gotten to where I am faster

I guess instead of being proud of “no ads spent” you should find a way to advertise it, I find ads incredibly useful because we can usually scale by just increasing the budget 😀

Very true! I think my issue is that in the current model the CAC versus LTV model doesn’t work and I spend more than I earn so I had to grow with those constraints. I don’t think I truly have PMF yet but getting closer. Once I’m there, I’ll definitely pour on the gas and start advertising

Custom golf cart maker sorta recruited me to make 3D printed stuff for him to sell cause he liked what I made. I also do electronics for him. All the stuff are my own designs. Guess he trust my judgement and sense of style enough to have full authority of the designs

At peak roughly $2000 a month. However the sales only really occur during summer and peak sales has long since gone.

It's closer to about $500 every month over 5ish months

That said he's expanding this summer and I got a new design that I think will be very popular ( already sold several prototypes, they all love it)

I'm being vague on purpose here BTW.

But ya. Never estimate the amount wealthy people will spend on their custom toys. I'm hoping to get into the big games.... their boats.

I think I could make serious money metal 3D printing for these luxury stuff but I do not have a place for such a printer unfortunately.

Awesome. Im still yet to sponsor a newsletter, dont have a budget yet for growth. So ive been manually getting new subscribers from Reddit comments and content distribution avging 5-10 subs a day.

Twitter has been my worst channel on the content side so far.. getting like 60-100 views a thread with 1400 followers

I have a C++ code generator. It writes low-level messaging and serialization code based on high-level input. It's implemented as a 3-tier system. The back and middle tiers only run on Linux. The front tier is very portable. I haven't made much money from it so far, but I've traded advertising on my site for some paperback books.

Built mailywizard.com - micro SaaS for email generator with own database. For the first two months, it was 50 dau, 120 registrations, and I have a few subscriptions with 1 dollar. So around 4-5 dollars ) But I sold my project for 1500$, and now starting to create a new one.
